Opening night of the 72nd Rockford Art Museum is May 18th. Artists from 9 states in the midwest submitted to this exhibition. An old mentor and teacher from the Rodger Brown Study Collection was the juror for this year's show, Lisa Stone. Very honored to have my new work, from the series, Fuck Your Norman Rockwell on display. Please come join if you are in the hood.

imagine being surrounded by other people in your industry for five days straight from 9am until about midnight each night... this is the intense high i was on just a week ago at Houstons's FotoFest. i barely read an email or answered my phone. i simply took it all in, and best of all, i had the opportunity to meet other incredible photographers, whose work i've seen in magazine spreads or hanging on gallery walls. this was magical; especially when touting someone's name just 30 min earlier, then getting to meet her in person. synchronicity i say!
we were a group of image junkies getting our fill. we sat around in between meetings and shared some of our most personal and powerful work : the work that comes from within, that we do for our selves, from our heart & thus inevitably brings our viewers, & the larger world together. This is our Element.

i'm excited to share with you some local folks i've been working with behind the scenes to design a new website. it's been an incredible jouney thus far -- both challenging and exciting. i believe it is the connections we share & the talents, aspirations and stories of others that bring us closer.
life is full of litte inspirations : celebrate them, celebrate each other
i look forward to showing you the collective brain power of these folks -- until then, let me introduce the following :

this is exciting! a new magazine with distribution in Singapore, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Lagos, London, and Chicago will have a 5 page spread on a few Brazil images from my personal project, Our World Insideout.
In addition, a wonderful and amazing non-profit I moonlight for, on the advisory board, embarc, is also featured in this issue!

a friend called me one morning and she thought she woke me. i was in fact, still in bed, but looking at my contemporaries online. there have been so many museums i've visited in the last 6 months. it's been a trip worth reliving and i will at some point relive it here. yes, i am bad at these posts. but this deserves a look. this is what kept me in bed that one morning (oh, by the way, i still haven't looked at that disk i mention here - jennifer was the critical mass finalist) the story from which this body comes from, is beautiful. enjoy....

a new year, and a new love card, with new work featured. i mailed a whole box full of these yesterday. i've been having some pretty amazing dreams for the last 6-8 months, which is the inspiration for this year's card. the dreams have been so vivid and magical - i hope these bring you some magic as well. each year these cards come with a little gift inside, for those of you i've had the pleasure to collaborate with, on a photographic endevor. if you'd like to be included, please email the studio here: studio@alyssamiserendino.com, with your snail mail address. this year's cards are going as far as new zeland, brazil, england, thailand, hong kong and germany. i can't wait to see how far they go next year. Happy year of the dragon!

this morning reminded me how lucky i am to have a fun loving brain -- yes i am a photographer (forgive my camera phone's auto functions below!), but also an interior design consultant... my client and i visited a slab manufacturing house, to pick out the location, on a slab, from where his countertop pieces would be cut. the gracious and funny artist we were assigned to, has been doing this for 25 years. i call him an artist, because he is thoughtful about where all pieces are going and how to maximize the movement in one slab. i was able to follow his thought process & collaborate through the design, which left me giddy. i cant wait to show off this kitchen when it is done. we knocked down walls, re-routed electrical, eliminated the vertical refrigerator and freezer, and a lot more! not to mention this beautiful piece of granite, found on accident (from brazil, no less, where i've just returned from a shoot). this was one of only three slabs left, unmarked, that i felt in love with when hand selecting it for the kitchen....

We had our first annual holiday open house and studio this year and it was a blast. We opened our home and our small studio office where all the magic happens. Thank you to Whitney Hsieh for capturing the event for us. Whitney was a student in a class I taught this last semester, Social Practices in Photography -- this was the first time this clas was offered at Harrington College of Design, and I look forward to seeing it grow.
Each room was open and the walls adorned with photographic work by Damien Thomposon, Lauren Whitney, Nikki Van Koevering & myself.
If you haven't heard, I'm also doing some underground interior ideation consulting. Our home showcased certain items, such as; a custom pot rack from an old barn beam (available for custom design for your home), office heated floors from fallen trees, custom made frames for a series of large photographic pieces, custom bedroom wall molding and scrap wood floor, and the much enjoyed hammock in my office.
Thank you to Fresh Ground Health for the delish homemade snacks & sweets the kids couldn't keep thier hands off, and Daniel Tomei for the homemade, grilled pizzas. Thank you to Cesari for your generous donation of wine!
Have a wonderful holiday everyone! until next year.

sometimes life brings together amazing experiences & people, and nikki is one of those people! nikki came on board this summer to work in the studio & today i'm sad {but happy} to say goodbye to her. she has been offered a job at a great publication. i'm happy to see her move on to something that will fill her with something new. there were several times where i was blown away by her determination, catching up where i left off, and making people at ease with just who she is. her next employer is lucky to have a creative problem solver, kind, honest and super hard working woman on thier staff. please come by and say hello to nikki on the 18th at our open studio. nikki will have a couple pieces of her own on display.
t h a n k y o u nikki for being a wonderful addition to the studio. i'll miss you!

It was an honor to be chosen this year among over 700 entrants as a finalist in Photolucida's Critical Mass. Check out the awesome jury & finalists here. Even better is the feedback at the end of the page. If you are a photographer who is working on something special & close to you heart, this is a great way to get it out into the world. Thank you to the whole jury who scanned through image after image. And t h a n k y o u Photolucida for the disk in the mail of all the finalist - what a treasure to share.

I hesitated posting this about six months ago, and instead sent the video of the below speech to someone I felt could gather inspiration from it. it was the best words I could find to help another. it's why I started this blog. why, what appears so seamingly disconnected in life, most often brings about the most ah ha moments. little inspirations. celebrate them, celebrate each other.
