the first blog i ever wrote, entitled "it's never too late" celebrated how lucky in life i am & the start of a new journey for me : blogging. i asked readers, friends & family to pass on that love & luck to those who could use a little hand. that evening, i wrote a blog about a fundraiser to help a local chicago public school. harper's basketball team, the cardinal's, were in need of $ to help fund future college trips, warm ups, jerseys, and shoes for the season. for those unfamiliar with chicago, harper high school is located in engelwood - a troubled area with high poverty, crime & drug use. at the time i had offered to take portraits of the team if we raised at least $500. with great excitement the night of the benefit, we raised over $1000 for the kids!! these kids stay off the street and on the court when it comes time to play. they are dedicated, and while trying to pull off being serious, laughed a little when i was able to conceal i was making may way around the court to capture them... here are few highlights from their individual portraits & candids. warn you, i have no formal training in sports photography, so this was a blast & a challenge.
t h a n k y o u to all of you who helped raise $ for these harper kids. i look forward to the team's responses & can't wait to deliver this to them...
